SOMNIA-SPECIFIC QUESTIONS
1. Dreams are how Sleep chooses you. What might draw your character into Somnia— a wound, a wish, a weakness? Would they follow the dream, or run from it?
cw: abuse, PTSD for this app!
Rotorstorm is drawn in by a wound - painful, gaping. Not the one between his eyes as given to him by Overlord, but the one it opens up; that wound that has been around untended to for years, ever since his time at the Iaconian Aerial Academy. It's not the leftovers from the daily beatings from Jestream, but what they represented: the fear - no, the reality - that he is unremarkable.
Rotorstorm doesn't run from the dream; for better or worse, he doesn't do running away. He would follow it, as twisted and bitter and painful as it may be.
2. Somnia is a slow unraveling—of worlds, and of selves. How does your character respond to fear, transformation, and losing control? Do they fight, adapt, collapse?
As a Wrecker, Rotorstorm is more than familiar with fear. He stares it head-on (preferably down the barrel of a gun) and confronts it in the only way he knows how: by fighting, and cracking jokes. Both are methods to try and defang the situation; he figures if he can joke and make light of something, it can't be as bad as it seems. But - in a way - both these approaches are methods of avoiding actually confronting the fear: by silencing through bullets or quips, he's scared to sit with the feeling, to really feel it. He wants to run away from it - but he can't for long.
Rotorstorm's never had to lose himself before. He prides himself on a personality he's built up, a persona he's carefully crafted, and has held onto it faithfully for many years. Unshakeable, he remained an egotistic joker to the end. In a world where your form is your function, his body is everything to him. To have himself changed, to transform, would reveal that Rotorstorm has very little else going for him outside of physicality and his intricately crafted persona; he would struggle, he would try to adapt, but it's more likely he'd collapse.
If he were to lose control, Rotorstorm would fight to regain it; he's only worth as much as he can do, and to be robbed of the ability would mean being as worthless as he was told he was. His struggle would be desperate; he's good in a physical fight, but only in that. He could succumb, easily, and fall victim.
3. Connection is the only constant. What kind of bonds does your character form— fast and burning, slow and wary, deep and desperate? How might that shape their time in this world?
Rotorstorm's bonds are shallow and fleeting; with both the nature of his line of work (in that, there's a good chance either of you could die) and his superficial persona, true and deep bonds aren't something he's used to. But in their absence, it's something he craves. He yearns to be truly appreciated, accepted, and validated by others. This usually has him pushing himself beyond his limits to prove he's worthy of such a thing. This pattern of behaviour is inevitably going to continue in this world, Rotorstorm being a reckless show-off for the chance to grasp some genuine connection.
...Of course, he might find that's not the way to get it. Perhaps he will be pushed, finally, to be vulnerable, to be wholly inadequate, to be sincere, and open himself up to all that entails.
4. What are two major forces in your character’s personality that are often in conflict? (Ex: logic vs emotion, power vs guilt, obedience vs rage, etc.)
Ego vs insecurity. The persona Rotorstorm has dutifully built up is at constant war with the anxieties, PTSD, and self-esteem issues he harbors (courtesy of Jetstream). He berates himself for trying too hard, but at the same time he's always pushing to be more. Whilst he can acknowledge that he's playing it up too much, that the persona is entirely false, he's also so attached to it that he's afraid of who he is without it.
This conflict also comes into his relationships with others; he's scared of not being enough, of not being valued, of being seen as worthless, but at the same time his boastful and larger-than-life mask makes it impossible for anyone to truly appreciate and value him, as they're never seeing the real Rotorstorm...whoever that is.
VESSEL SELECTION
Which Vessel Type are you choosing: Token or Offering? Token
Why does this Vessel type feel appropriate for your character? Rotorstorm is a skilled professional; to harness and hone a skill feels right for him to do. Plus, psychological horror seems more apt for him than body horror, given his struggles with regards to identity and trauma.
Choose one OR list three subclass options within your chosen Vessel type that you think would suit them: Illusionist
